About

The original purpose of this blog was just to chart the writer’s progress in having a bone anchored hearing aid fitted. This is a fairly new process and it was thought that it might be of interest to potential users. Also to the general public, starting to see people walking around with small boxes attached to their heads behind the ear.

However, by itself this would involve an awful lot of waiting around without much going on. After the initial procedure it takes three months for the bone to attach firmly to the implant before an aid can be fitted.

To fill in this wait period I have decided to log other views and experiences from a 60+ year lifetime with at least some level of hearing impairment. This resulting blog has three threads:-

A Hole In The Head? The running log of the implant procedure.

About Hearing Loss General observations on the mechanisms of loss, and possible methods of dealing with it.

Instrumentation Hearing aids in general, methods of selection and usage.

Please note that the convention with blogs is that the most recent posting always goes on top of the pile. Anyone wanting to catch up by reading the posts in chronological order is advised to start by digging to the bottom of the appropriate thread, then working upwards in the order of posting.

The implant and skin graft were carried out late in January 2008, so I could expect the aid to be fitted at the end of April if all goes according to plan. During this period the intention is to post every 7 to 10 days on one aspect or another, but only for as long as I can stay “on topic”.

The current intention is not for this to become a continuous personal philosophy / lifestyle type of blog.
